GEORGE TOWN: Police detained 20 foreign women working as guest relation officers (GRO) in a raid on three entertainment centres in Midlands Park, Pulau Tikus, early today.
Timur Laut police chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the women, 17 of whom were from China and three from Vietnam, were found to have abused their social visit passes and working permits, with several of them did not even have any identification documents.
"The women, aged between 23 and 40, were taken to Timur Laut police headquarters for further investigation," he told reporters here.
He said five men, believed to be the 'tonto' who alerted the owners of the entertainment centres about the presence of police in the area, were also arrested during the raid.
"They are believed to have acted as the eyes and ears of the owners of the entertainment centres, and had also disturbed and distracted the police from raiding the place," he added. --BERNAMA
