AWARD-winning producer and actress Tiara Jacquelina is spicing up the Malaysian tourism scene with her latest project.

The founder and group president of Enfiniti Vision Media Sdn Bhd will be combining resources with Kuala Lumpur City Hall in presenting a musical called MUD: Our Story of Kuala Lumpur.

The 50-minute show, comprising a cast and crew of over 80, officially opens on June 21 at Panggung Bandaraya. It is then slated for an expected three-to-five-year run with a daily performance at 3pm and 8.30pm.

Presented in English and directed by Amsalan Dorasingam, MUD: Our Story of Kuala Lumpur is set in the early years and revolves around three friends – Mamat, Meng and Muthiah – who leave their village and journey to Kuala Lumpur, a mining town, to make their fortunes.

Follow their trials and tribulations as they try to rise above their challenges in their new home, highlighting the unwavering spirit of our forefathers.

It is an inspiring tale of friendship and perseverance.

"Whoever watches the show will get to know the history and culture of Kuala Lumpur more intimately," says Tiara.

"Many of us have lived all or most of our lives in Kuala Lumpur but are oblivious to all the rich history behind the skyscrapers.

"We have done a lot of research on the city's history before writing the play. We have put all our love and passion into this production."

The local media was recently given a preview of the show and most journalists came away impressed by it.

Tiara added that several international media had also been given a sneak preview of the show and will, hopefully, publicise it overseas so that visitors who have read about the show will be keen to catch it when they visit Kuala Lumpur or Malaysia.

Tiara believes Panggung Bandaraya is the perfect place to showcase the play.

"I have always been with Panggung Bandaraya," says Tiara who has presented several award-winning musicals in the past, such as Puteri Gunung Ledang the Musical and P. Ramlee the Musical.

"It really reminds me of the beautiful traditional theatres you see in Europe. There is a certain warmth and intimacy in this 110-year-old dame that feels so welcoming.

"For many of us in the arts, there is a lot of sentimental value attached to this place as we (myself included) have performed here at some point of our career."
