The Georgetown Eagles will enter the football season as the fifth-ranked team in the American-Statesman's preseason power poll.

One of only two Austin-area schools to win 25 games over the past two seasons, Georgetown is coming off a season in which it reached the third round of the Class 4A, Division I playoffs. Second-year starter Ben Bottlinger returns to the quarterback position after he threw 22 touchdowns passes in his debut season, and his offense will also retain an all-district running back (Mookie Walton) and an all-district wide receiver (Camden Lepley).

The Eagles will also return five starters to a defense that has allowed 14.8 points per game over the past two seasons. Georgetown must replace two All-Central Texas honorees on its offensive line this season. Jace LaCaille, a two-time All-Central Texas linebacker, has also graduated. Georgetown also finds itself in the much-hyped District 25-5A and seven of the 10 teams on its 2014 schedule reached the postseason in 2013.

Georgetown will open its season on Aug. 29 with a home game against Westwood.
