KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur will play host to intellectual property (IP) experts from the United Kingdom, India and Malaysia during the "IP Makes $ense" forum on November 6.

The one-day event will be held at the Intellectual Property Corp of Malaysia (MyIPO) auditorium at Wisma UOA, Jalan Bangsar Utama.

Alan MacDougall and Chris Hamer, both partners at the London headquarterd IP firm Mathys & Squire, will be talking about developments in the fields of software applications and biotechnology, two of the hottest areas in IP.

Professor Prabuddha Ganguli, an IP expert and chief executive officer of Mumbai-based Vision-IPR, will be talking about the monetisation of IP rights.

"These companies are riding high because technology is becoming more pervasive.

"The ubiquity of mobile phones has fuelled the demand for applications," said Mohan K, who heads local intellectual property firm Adastra Intellectual Property, the event's main organiser.

"The biotechnology revolution has been fuelled by the need to create sustainable solutions for a rapidly growing global population," he said in a statement.

Co-organiser MyIPO's Shamsiah Kamaruddin said the event and theme centred on IP commercialisation was timely as IP is no longer merely a "filing exercise".

"IP is big business and we are happy that Malaysians are beginning to realise this in conjunction with MOSTI Commercialisation Year 2014. I hope Malaysians benefit from the expertise of those from countries ahead of the curve," Shamsiah added.
