A championship-winning coach will lead the Georgetown school district's athletic department.

Georgetown ISD has approved the hiring of Todd York as the district's new athletic director. York will oversee an athletic department that includes Georgetown High and East View High, and he will begin working at his new job on May 5.

York has coached at Kaufman High for the past seven seasons, and he led the Lions to a 50-40 record. York, who was an assistant coach at Georgetown High in the mid-1980s, won a Class 2A, Division I championship with Corrigan-Camden High in 2002.

According to a press release from the Georgetown school district, York has also been an athletic director during his stops at Kaufman, Corrigan-Camden and Terrell High.

York will replace Phil Blue, who is now the athletic director for the Grapevine-Colleyville school district.
