IPOH: City councillor Datuk Phoon Yoon Choy was injured after he was stabbed in the left shoulder on Wednesday.
"I was just leaving my office around 6pm when two people came up behind me trying to snatch my bag.
"Of course I would not have allowed them to rob me without putting up a fight.
"And that was when they stabbed me right below my left collar bone," Phoon told reporters on Thursday.
As he tried to defend himself by reaching into his car for a wooden stick, the two fled the scene in a beige Kancil without managing to take away any of his valuables or belongings.
Five minutes after the incident, he was rushed to the hospital after he was found injured by a mother and a daughter
"I suspect they were on drugs because they seemed slightly disoriented when they escaped," said Phoon, adding that he was extremely grateful for their help.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said that he had been stabbed by a sharp object, but police are yet to determine the exact weapon that was used.
"We are still investigating the real motive behind this assault, and we have two suspects who are yet to be identified," he said.
"We will also be checking for hidden cameras that are situated near the crime scene that could have recorded the incident," said ACP Sum.
