Appearing in its second consecutive year, the KLFW, hosted by Andrew Models, is themed 'The Runway Collection', which features a range of runway-worthy and distinctive new lines and structures, yet to be introduced into the mass market.
'The Runway Collection' will feature over 80 Malaysian designers, as well as 3 guest designers from Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines, all focused in their pursuit to boost the retail industry.
"We are looking to change the mindset of the younger shoppers. We want to tell them that Malaysian designers are at par with designers in the international retail markets. This is already evident by looking at fashionistas today as they often mix local labels into their overall style," said Andrew Tan, founder of KLFW.
Appearing for the first time this year is the addition of two new fashion shows, entitled 'UITM8' which will feature 8 fashion design students from MARA University of Technology and 'SHOW3', showcasing new Malaysian labels.
Among the designers that will be showcasing their collection includes Farah Khan, Jovian Mandagie, Alia Bastaman, Zakwan Anuar, Bon Zainal, Kavita Kaur and Tom Abang Saufi.
There will also be a showcase of 'pop-up stores' named 'Fashionably KL', appearing around selected Kuala Lumpur shopping malls such as LOT10, Avenue K and Fahrenheit88.
KLFW aims to offer Malaysian designers a suitable platform that will develop and provide due recognition to local fashion retail industry, emphasising on the ready-to-wear collection.
The second Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week will be held from 18th to 22nd June 2014 at Bukit Bintang's finest mall, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
