KUALA LUMPUR: Four thieves managed to get away with a large amount of cash after they cut open an automated-teller machine (ATM) at Jalan Ipoh, here, this morning.

The 4.45am incident happened at a mosque there, where the suspects had used an oxy acetylene torch to cut open the ATM's steel door.

City Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Gan Kong Meng said the amount of losses is still under investigations.

"Initial investigations found that the suspects went to the location in a Proton Saga FLX.

"They had also painted a CCTV inside the ATM's kiosk with blue paint," he said.

He said police are checking the recordings from other CCTVs to identify the suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
