Milestone for KL musical - The Star Online

LOCAL musical MUD: Our Story of Kuala Lumpur celebrated its 100th performance recently, marking a milestone for both its production and the Malaysian theatre industry.

Following popular productions such as SuperMokh and P.Ramlee: The Musical, MUD is set to garner the attention of Malaysians and tourists of all ages with daily shows for the next three years.

Capturing the essence of Kuala Lumpur's humble beginnings, MUD's tale follows the challenges faced by three young men, Mamat, Meng and Muthiah. The trio travel from their village to a small tin mining town in search of fortune and a better life.

The story is set against crucial historical events which led to the birth of the capital city and enduring spirit of its people, including the Great Fire and Flood in 1881.

MUD demands its audience's participation, such as helping to put out the Great Fire or dancing on stage with the rest of the cast.

No wonder this interactive musical has ushered a constant flow of Malaysians and tourists through the doors of 110-year-old Panggung Bandaraya.

Weaved through with vibrant colours, dance and drama, this nostalgic musical is a collaborative effort between Enfiniti Vision Media and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib expressed his admiration for the production's stunning quality and exuberant display of the city's rich culture and history.

"Through this musical, people are truly able to explore the depths of our multicultural history.

I believe this musical will be a tourist attraction for Kuala Lumpur and boost its name as an international tourist destination," he said, after the performance, adding that DBKL would continue to support Malaysian-made theatre productions.

The musical's executive producer and Enfiniti Vision Media group president, Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina said the 100th show was a proud moment for her team and a very positive and encouraging message for the local arts scene.

MUD welcomes audiences of all ages and backgrounds and plays daily at 3pm and 8.30pm.

Tickets are priced at RM45 (for Mykad holders) and RM60, and can be purchased from the Panggung Bandaraya ticket box office, or online at www.mudkl.com.
