PETALING JAYA: Budget airline Firefly will increase its flight frequency between Johor Baru and Ipoh to meet increasing demand.
The route would be flown daily from Nov 1 to Oct 25 next year compared to the current four flights a week, the airline said in a statement.
As such, the number of flights will increase from eight to 14 and the number of seats weekly will rise to 2,016 from 1,152.
Firefly chief executive officer Ignatius Ong said the move is in line with Tourism Malaysia's campaign to promote local tourism.
The airline would also hold a five-day year-end promotion from Monday until Friday. All-in, one-way fares would start at RM29 to all of its domestic destinations, including Ipoh, Penang, and Johor Baru.
The travel period for those buying tickets during the promotion is from Nov 10.
Ong said the public should seize the opportunity to buy tickets at discounted fares.
"The festive season is just around the corner and many will be taking a break, what better gift to share with friends and family than an exciting holiday or a flight ticket to re-connect with loved ones?" hestated.
He added that the discounted fares are inclusive of applicable taxes and surcharges.
Those buying the discounted tickets would also receive a free 20kg checked baggage allowance and in-flight refreshments, the airline said.
There would also be discounted tickets to international destinations during the promotion.
Prices for Medan Kuala Namu, Batam, Pekanbaru, Singapore and Krabi will start at RM99 while those for Koh Samui and Phuket will be from RM169.
A Twitter contest will run simultaneously with the promotion where the airline's followers would also have a chance to win a Firefly Limited Edition Pillow. Followers only need to re-tweet Firefly's contest tweet and include the hashtag #FYAmazing and @FlyFirefly to take part.
The airline would then randomly choose three winners each day.
