GEORGE TOWN - A woman's excitement of meeting her lover after a couple of days of not meeting turned to grief and horror after finding him dead at his flat here on Saturday.

The body of Ng Kok Wai, 59, was found at 10.45pm at his Jalan Tan Sri Teh Ewe Lim flat here, lying on the floor between the bathroom and the room.

Ng's body was already badly decomposed, leading police to believe he had been dead for several days.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said based on preliminary investigations, the woman said she had not met Ng for a couple of days.

She had also said that the deceased was suffering from throat cancer, and it was learnt that the victim had just undergone a surgery at a private hospital two months ago.

Mior said investigations found no foul play, with Ng believed to have collapsed before dying.

The case is still being probed, and has been classified as sudden death.

Ng's body was subsequently taken to the Penang Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem, and the results showed he had died from complications from oesophageal cancer. -NST
