Kuala Lumpur City Hall says it is ready for floods in the city. – The Malaysian Insider file pic, December 25, 2014.Kuala Lumpur City Hall says it is ready for floods in the city. – The Malaysian Insider file pic, December 25, 2014.The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) rescue unit is ready to face floods in the capital, said Kuala Lumpur (KL) mayor Datuk Seri Ahamd Phesal Talib.

He said DBKL along with other government agencies such as the Social Welfare Department, Fire and Rescue Department, and the Civil Defence Department would provide assistance to the public if the natural disaster were to occur in Kuala Lumpur.

"We (DBKL) have enough personnel to face the flood situation. We will utilise the assets we have in the best way possible to provide immediate help to the flood victims," he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Commenting on the occurrence of landslides following the monsoon period, DBKL deputy director-genereal (Project Implementation and Maintenance) Datuk Mohd Najib Mohd said works to stabilise slopes in high risk areas were ongoing. 

Among the areas idetified were Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Persekutuan, Jalan Setiawangsa, Jalan Ampang, and Bukit Nanas. 

"For actions to prevent landslides, we are carrying out soil nailing, slope protection and retaining wall (reinforced concrete) installation works," he said.

Meanwhile, Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim said although KL had not been affected by floods like the other states, his department was always ready, having enough manpower and assets to cope with the situation.

"We (Fire Department) are on alert 24 hours a day and all preparations have been taken into account," he said. – Bernama, December 25, 2014.
