George Town Police Detain 12 Individuals, Seize Drugs Worth RM700,000 - Bernama

GEORGE TOWN, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Police believe they have busted a drug trafficking syndicate through its Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING).

Bukit Aman Narcotics CID director, Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said STING detained a man and seized an assortment of drugs during a 10.20 am raid based on public tip-off and surveillance at a house at Sungai Ara on Friday.

He said a laboratory for processing drugs was also found in the house.

"Police seized 389 gm of heroin base, heroin number three (3.8 kg), liquid heroin (2.03 kg), caffeine (23.7 kg), chemicals and drug processing paraphernalia," he told a press conference in George Town, Tuesday.

Following the raid, police roped in five other people at Sungai Petani, Kedah.

"Police also raided another house in George Town and detained six people including two women, and seized 250 gm of syabu," he said.

Noor Rashid said nine cars, six motorcycles including superbikes, gold jewellery an! d RM70,264 cash were also seized in the operation.

"The drugs were worth RM700,000 while the vehicles, jewellery and cash amounted to RM800,000," he said.

He said investigations found that the syndicate had been active since last year and distributing the drugs around Penang and Kedah.

According to him, the 12 people aged between 26 and 47, have been remanded for one week to facilitate investigations.
