IPOH folk are in for a treat as the Watoto Children's Choir from Uganda, Africa, which had performed at the White House and the Buckingham Palace, will take to the stage here on Dec 11.

To be held at the Ipoh Red Crescent Society hall, there will be 29 orphans and abused children aged between 6 and 13 performing at the concert.

Organised by the Glory Creative Ministry, the concert is themed "Beautiful Africa: A New Generation".

Glory Creative Ministry chairman Felicia Foong said there would be two shows on that day with the first show scheduled at 2pm (for students and parents) while the second show would be at 8pm (for the public).

"The children will put up a lively show accompanied by African music and dances, visual effect and music videos," she said.

Church members, added Foong, would also perform on that day.

The choir had toured Australia, Canada, Japan, Netherlands and Scandinavia.

Foong said Ipoh was the choir's 67th stop.

"We hope to raise RM100,000 through ticket sales and table calendars for abandoned African children to enable them to continue schooling in Uganda," she said.

"Currently, there are about 3,000 neglected children in the Watoto village where they depend on skills such as farming to survive and public donation for their education fees," she added, noting that good Samaritans could opt for the "Adopt a Child" programme to help these unfortunate children.

Tickets for the concert, which is meant for non-Muslims only, are priced at RM5 (2pm slot) and RM10/RM20 (8pm slot).
